The Third Agreement: “Don’t Make Assumptions” – July 18, 2021

Loving greetings to you as we commemorate the significance of America’s freedom when on this very day in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed. May our hearts be filled with gratitude and joy as we acknowledge that each of us has been endowed by Spirit with all that is needed to contribute to the creation of a peace-filled, compassionate and enlightened society. And let us continue in a direction of worldwide healing as we include our entire global family in our daily prayers.

Throughout the events of the last year up to this current moment, we’ve been given many opportunities to think about our individual relationship to freedom and how we define and express it in our lives. And that is why this month’s theme is “The Spiritual Importance of Agreements,” during which we will focus on the timeless universal principles of individual freedom as described by Don Miguel Ruiz in his spiritual classic, The Four Agreements.

The July 18, 2021 topic is The Third Agreement: “Don’t Make Assumptions.” “To assume,” Webster’s informs us, means that “a thing is accepted as true without proof.” The first person we should check in with about assumptions is our self. There are times when this can cause us to feel too vulnerable, as in the cliché “the truth hurts.” What and who does it hurt—the fragile egoic assumptions we hold about ourselves and others? Tune in and discern the difference.
